Madera County, CA – Madera County is turning green this week in honor of all veterans. Since its inception, the Supervisors have passed an annual resolution to illuminate the Government Centers in Madera, Oakhurst, along with the Department of Social Services green. This marks the fifth year of the national initiative called Operation Green Light. Madera County is one of thousands nationwide to light our buildings green from November 4-11, to let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported. It also serves as a reminder that the contributions and sacrifices of those who served in the Armed Forces have been vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by all Americans. Around 200,000 service members transition to civilian communities nationwide with an annual increase of 20 percent. Operation Green Light brings to light the struggles veterans face transitioning to civilian life; studies indicate that 44 to 72 percent of service members experience high levels of stress and are at a high risk for suicide during their first year after military service. The Madera County Supervisors are encouraging all residents to join Operation Green Light.
