Madera County, CA – Madera County is home to the only authentic cattle stampede in the state and today hundreds came out for the historic event kicking off the 69th Annual Chowchilla Western Stampede with fanfare, rodeo royalty, and plenty of cowboy spirit. This beloved tradition, which began in 1958, brings local ranchers and their herds straight through the heart of downtown Chowchilla, delighting hundreds of spectators who lined Robertson Boulevard for a front row seat to a tradition unlike any other. The free event, considered only one of two authentic cattle drives in the nation, (Fort Worth, TX the other one), was a can’t-miss kickoff to the Chowchilla Western Stampede. The Cattle Drive celebrates Chowchilla’s proud agricultural roots and heritage, setting the stage for a weekend of festivities for the entire family.

After the drive, the excitement continues at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds with three days of team roping competitions drawing contestants from across the western United States. Additional Stampede highlights include the popular barrel racing events on March 14–15.
