Office Overview
The County Clerk-Recorder is elected to office every four years, and is responsible for three distinct divisions: County Clerk, County Recorder, and Elections.
County Clerk division is charged with issuing public and confidential marriage licenses, performing civil marriage ceremonies, filing fictitious business name statements, and other miscellaneous ministerial duties.
County Recorder is charged with recording, indexing and permanently archiving all records of land transactions in Madera County. Records of all births, deaths and marriage events that occurred in Madera County are on record with the Recorder division.
The Elections division of the department maintains records on the registered voters in the county, and conducts local, state and federal elections in the county.
To promote public confidence and good will by providing the very highest level of courteous, efficient service. Further, to insure the highest possible degree of integrity of the County's election process through administration of all federal, state, and local election laws in a uniform, consistent and accessible manner.
Documents may be submitted for recording anytime between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). This includes recordings submitted by the public, courier service and/or title company.
Please note that some title companies and/or courier services may limit their hours for delivery of recordings at their own discretion. These restrictions are NOT mandated by the County Recorder.
All other services are offered Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
The Clerk-Recorder department provides copies of recorded official records including deeds, mortgages, liens, releases of liens, and maps; birth, death and marriage certificates; fictitious business name statements; and CEQA filings. All copy fees can be found on our Schedule of Fees link below. To obtain copies of these records please contact our office directly.

Divorce records*, building permits, blueprints, zoning information, and code violations are not held by this office.
Divorce records are NOT held by the County Clerk-Recorder. Records for divorces filed in Madera are with the Madera Superior Court, please call (559) 416-5599 for additional information.
