The Madera County Clerk's office is now a designated passport acceptance facility and is authorized to accept new passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. This office does not handle passport renewals; you must submit them directly to the U.S. Department of State.

Customers may apply for a passport book, passport card, or both. Passport books are valid for international and domestic flights; and passport cards are accepted as ID for domestic flights and can be used when entering the United States at land-border crossings and seaports -of-entry from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

Processing time at the U. S. Department of State varies and may be expedited for an additional fee of $60. For the most up-to-date processing times, please visit: Processing Times for U.S. Passports

Customers with emergency or urgent travel needs should call 1 (877) 487-2778, email NPIC@state.gov, or visit travel.state.gov for further assistance.

Our office also offers passport photos for an additional fee of $15.00.

Appointments required; no walk-ins.

Applicants with incomplete applications may be required to reschedule.

Required Documents

Passport Application: One application (DS-11) must be presented for each individual. Print the form on single-sided paper - double-sided forms will not be accepted. Each application must be completed before you arrive to your appointment - BUT NOT SIGNED.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship: A certified copy of your birth, citizenship, or naturalization certificate, or an expired passport. (No photocopies or digital/electronic copies)
Proof of Identity: Driver's license, identification card, military ID, or naturalization certificate. The physical card must be presented.
Recent Passport Photographs in Color: Available from our office during your appointment for an additional fee.
Passport Fees: Passport application fees and processing fees are paid separately. Passport Application Fees must be paid by check or money order and are made out to the U.S. Department of State. Processing fees are payable by any method - cash, credit/debit card, check, or money order. Please see below for details.
Social Security Number: The application requires the social security number only. Showing the physical card is not required.
For Minors Under 16 Years of Age: Minors under 16 years of age MUST show proof of citizenship. Both parents MUST be present for the appointment and present proof of parentage.

Passport Fees

Passport Application Fees may only be paid with a check or money order. These fees are paid to the U.S. Department of State and are sent with your application. Other Fees
Expedite Fee	Paid per application, in addition to application fees. Provides faster processing than routine service. Fee can be paid with a check or money order payable to the U. S. Department of State as part of the passport application fee if requested. This fee is subject to change without notice.	$60

Can I Renew My Passport?

If you already have a US passport, you may be eligible to renew by mail or online. Unfortunately, passports are NOT renewed in-person. Click the links below for more information:

If you are an adult, over the age of 18, and do not qualify to renew by mail or online because your passport is:

lost, stolen, or damaged, or
issued over 15 years ago, or
issued when you were under 16 years of age

Then you may apply for a NEW passport with our office by booking an appointment.
