MADERA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IN-CUSTODY DEATH NOTIFICATION DATE:

April 1, 2026 The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the death of an incarcerated individual who was in custody at the Madera County Jail. On April 1, 2026, Mark Anthony Munoz, a 49-year-old male from Madera, California, experienced a medical emergency while in custody. Custody staff responded immediately and initiated life-saving measures. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested, and Mr. Munoz was transported to Madera Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.  Mr. Munoz had been booked into custody on March 30, 2026. According to the independent autopsy and toxicology report, the decedent’s cause of death was pulmonary artery disease.
