No cost/low cost COVID-19 PCR Testing

Madera County has four options for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) COVID-19 nasal collection testing for both symptomatic and asymptomatic (no symptoms) adults.  PCR tests are used to diagnose COVID-19 - these are not antibody tests.  To learn more about PCR verses antibody testing click here.

1. Walk up - Madera Fairgrounds

 Where  Madera Fairgrounds – Van Alen Hall – 1850 West Cleveland Ave. Madera Ca 93637
 Who  Symptomatic and asymptomatic (no symptoms/not sick) ages 1 and older.
 Cost  Free, however if you have insurance you will be asked to provide your insurance card

 Test Type  PCR - nasal test for the active COVID-19 virus and infections; this is not an antibody test.        
 Collection  Nasal pharyngeal specimen collection
Bring with you  Photo ID and test authorization/patient ID number.  If the address on your Photo ID does not match your physical address, proof of address must be provided (such as a utility bill or car registration).
 What to expect  COVID-19 Testing at Madera Fairgrounds (video - 3 minutes)
  To make an appointment:
  • Visit the       
  • Follow the directions to register with the site. You will need to select your state of resident (CA) and answer all of the screening questions
  • Note that if you have insurance it will ask you for your insurance information to offset the cost. If you do not have insurance select “No”
  • During the registration process you will be given a Patient ID. You must save your patient ID # number for the day of your appointment - you cannot be seen without it.  We recommend taking a photo or writing it down for safekeeping
  • After registration proceed to schedule your appointment
  • The Madera testing site is located at the Madera Fairgrounds – Van Alen Hall: 1850 West Cleveland Ave. Madera, CA 93637. You will then be able to schedule your appointment
  • The only dates shown are Mondays. Select the Monday date for the week you would like to visit. You will then be able to see other available dates/times for that week
  • Schedule your appointment
  • If the address on your photo ID does not match your physical address, proof of your physical address (such as utility bill or car registration) must be provided

  2. Mobile (Drive Through) Testing

 Who  MADERA COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY: Adults (18+) who are symptomatic and asymptomatic (no symptoms/not sick)
 Cost  Free
 Appointment?  No

 Collection  Nasal mid turbinate specimen collection (you do this yourself in the car)
 Results  4-5 business days
 Bring with you  Photo ID
 Notes  Drive-through testing – vehicle required. More than one member of the same household may arrive in the same vehicle.
